I know the world seems kind of like it's imploding right now. Let's all remember that not everyone is a terrorist or xenophobe or the type of person who lets hate and fear dictate their politics.

Here's mine, though it isn't technically "mine": I went out with my mom for bubble tea last night at a new Taiwanese place that just opened up, and my mom was about to order plum tea. The person behind the counter felt obligated to tell us that it wasn't fresh plum tea, but rather dried plum tea. My mom (who came to visit me in Japan and thus has had umeboshi and liked it) didn't know if she would like the dried version, so the person behind the counter gave her a fresh one to try for free. This was pretty nice, since I'm sure my mom wouldn't have wound up liking a slightly salty bubble tea, and saved us from wasting some money on it.

I want to watch The Long Kiss Goodnight again, or maybe I have to write something that hits the specific note I want out of it myself.

I'm honestly just...appalled? My best friend was shaking over reading this. I didn't think it would escalate like this, but some of these things border on basically pre-WWII situations. I actually had to stop reading at people being called "vermin". Basically, people are using Brexit as an excuse to legitimize their racism and xenophobia openly. It's awful, and it's not the UK I remember from few years back :(.

I feel something was irrevocably broken, and stuff is going to hell.

Today is not a day I feel good at humanity.

I don't think I'm going to like FFXV

I got the demo today. The game mechanics are fairly ok, and the world is nice and big, but I don't like the characters, Literally no main female character, and the one side female character is kida grross. I also don't think I like the message or the theme of the story "Four dudebros go on a dudbro male bonding trip and bond and be bros and dudes!" not exactly a thrilling or particularly positive message.

I like the other story from the other demo, where the kid is walking through a dream world meeting fantastic creatures and being cute much much better.

So my friends and I got into Tabletop RPGs recently, but I really dislike our gaming system. One of my friends bought it a couple of years back on a convention and it is a pretty small (German) system and we basically just picked it, bc we wanted to try RPGs and had this one lying around.

So, anyone around here play tabletop rpgs? What systems do you use?

Characters or ships you love that you dislike common fan interpretations of them?

Looking for songs that...

I'm looking for songs that are kind of "callout"-ish, where the target is someone who's hurt/bullied/abused/pissed off the speaker, but not (at least not explicitly) a boyfriend/girlfriend - so the millions of "you/he/she cheated on me" songs don't count. Simple Plan's "Shut Up" is along the lines I'm thinking of. I don't know a lot of songs/artists, so can anyone suggest any more?

And don't have the self confidence to keep going.

I don't want much, (only to be fairly self-sufficient, not sadbrained, and maybe a cat if I'm lucky), but everytime I think I'm on my way to that I fuck up and feels like this is enough. What's the point of trying if all I'm good for is fucking up.

Years of therapy, meds, self help, and that fun stuff hasn't done me much good.

I really really don't want to be a burden on anyone. I feel like an embarrassment anytime I walk outside. I do nothing out of shame and distract myself anyway possible to keep from that shame. What's more embarrassing than being an adult loser who survives on mommy and daddy's dime. Basic conservation makes me uncomfortable. People can tell something's off about me and I get so self-conscious about it and it makes it worse. Got no marketable skills and what's the point if robots are gonna make us all jobless in 30 years. Nobody believes in me, it feels like.

Book club: Dragon Thief discussion post!!

Time to discuss Dragon Thief by S. Andrew Swann!

A couple of things before I start the discussion:

1. I'm going to try a slightly different format. I'm going to post a few questions, but I'm going to post my own reactions in a different comment and shorten it a little. I think when I respond to the questions myself I tend to make really long teal deer-ish posts and I don't think that necessarily helps discussion. As always, feel free to respond to any and all questions, make your own reaction posts, or respond to my reactions/others' reactions. And - again, as always - feedback is appreciated!

2. I definitely want to read the last book in the trilogy. I will read it whether or not we do it together, but was wondering if there was any interest in reading it together as a club? If so, I can put it on the rec list for August. If not, I'll eventually read it on my own and then just talk about it in GC or something.

3. Start thinking about August recs; I'll start asking for those soon! (Possibly tomorrow)

4. Quick reminder that we're reading Para Handy by Neil Munro for July! Discussion date TBA. Whether or not we do it on a weekend again will depend in part on general feedback and in part on how today's discussion goes.
