Shit Stream 58: WTF was that ending?

This time around, we examine some movies that really whiff it right at the end. Maybe they knew what they were doing in the middle, maybe it was a bad idea to begin with, but the end of the journey really made you question why they started in the first place if they were gonna end up THERE.

A vampire king has reincarnated! He's... kinda... umm... well, lets just say he's more "suck" and "Suck certain things" instead of "suck blood" this time around. One heck of a twinky twinky will twinkle (but not sparkle) in: VAMPERIFICA!

Words that don't mean anything anymore (to you)

Based on one of the secrets from yesterday, which word(s) no longer holds any meaning to you? For me it's "internalized misogyny". I'm sure there are times when it makes sense to bring it up, but most of the time I've seen it it's been to discredit and shut down anyone who disagrees with the person who says it, and now whenever I see it, I just roll my eyes.

Same with the other "internalized -isms". It just feels like a cheap way to brush someone off, without actually considering their point. (Not necessarily in yesterday's thread, just in general to me).

It's really annoying, because I feel like it could be an actually useful term, if I didn't see it all the time as "you disagreed with me? That's just because you're too weak to block out societies viewpoints, unlike me, so sit down and shut up."

What are your thoughts on yaoi?

Mine; Why do they make cinnamon jellybeans? And why do they make them so hot? Because when I am eating candy the one thing I am thinking is, "You know what's missing here? Pain."

Fleas, and the pets that get them

The other day, my friend came to visit. After she left, she texted me, warning me that she had found a couple of fleas on her arm, and I might want to check my cat, so I bought a flea comb. While combing him, I found two more fleas, and what was either dander, or some flea eggs.

As a treatment, I bought some Frontline anti-flea stuff (apparently the chemicals in Advantage are the same used in crop spraying, and since we're a big farming community, the fleas are mostly immune? I'm not sure how true it is, but I bought Frontline, just to be safe ._.;), and I put it on him. I thought also bought something called Sentry Home, and I've been vacuuming and spraying this stuff down like crazy, as it contains something in it that prevents fleas from developing when their in egg form, larvae form, or adult form.

So far, I haven't found anymore fleas, and I still can't tell if I'm coming out dander or eggs, but the amount of white flecks I'm pulling up when I comb him is lessening.

Does that sound like I'm doing the right thing? Also, how often do cat's scratch themselves? Because he's still scratching, but I'm not finding anymore fleas, and I don't know if that means I got them all and early enough to not have a huge problem, or if I'm just missing them while I'm combing.

I'm in the mood for a text adventure, preferably available online and free. Anyone got recs? (Walkthroughs are also helpful; I like the games, but I'm not actually very good at them.) Thanks!

Looking for shows I can watch with my mother

Either animated or live action will work. I'd prefer things we can marathon. Available on sites like Hulu or Crunchyroll is a big bonus.

Shows my mother has watched on her own include:
* The X-Files (early seasons--she said it got too gory)
* Buffy the Vampire Slayer (full show)
* Lost (lasted about halfway)
* Heroes (lasted to the very beginning of season 3)

Shows I've watched with her:
* Princess Tutu (her favorite show ever)
* Tiger and Bunny (Kotetsu is a lot like my father)

Shows she hasn't liked:
* Trigun (she stopped liking it after it got dark and serious)
* Tonari no Seki-kun (she thought it was boring that Seki never talked)
* Chobits (I regret even suggesting this)

Currently watching:
* Kurau: Phantom Memory (she likes it so far)

Hit me with whatever you've got! (Since she liked Tutu so much, I'm particularly interested in good magical girl shows--I tried Futari wa Pretty Cure on my own, but I thought it was pretty eh.)

Sexuality v. Sexual Orientation

This is a thought I've had for a long time, but I'm never around at a decent time to make it:

Whenever talk of sexuality is brought up, inevitably somebody mentions demisexual and the derision hits the fan because "THAT'S NOT A SEXUALITY; YOU'RE JUST BEING A SNOWFLAKE!!" And while, yeah, I'm not crazy about the label (mostly because I think it sounds dumb), that always seems like a very flawed argument.

Because sexuality, by definition -- and common usage -- is about the way in which we are sexual. How many times have there been conversations about fiction and the way it "punishes women for their sexuality"? We're not talking about whether they sleep with women or men, we're talking about whether they have sex, how often and under what circumstances.

Sexual *orientation* on the other hand has always been about the nethers and gender of the people you want to have sex with.

So, it seems to me that sexuality doesn't matter if somebody is gay, straight, bi or pan -- in terms of sexuality they can be celibate, slutty and any number of things in between...including demi. And picking an ever-loving fit because you don't like the word somebody picked for their sexuality is just as much a reflection on you as it is on them.

I've been gone a few days and don't have the will to wade through all the old posts. So if this has been done recently...consider it a second chance for new eyes to see your recs and reqs.

I'm looking for: X-Men fic set in between First Class and Days of Future Past or after DoFP. Gen would be fabulous but I'd settle for not smutty -- and if anybody knows of anything that deals with Eric's claim that *THIS IS A MINOR MINOR SPOILER FOR DOFP SO DON'T BLAME ME IF YOU'RE NOT SCROLLING TO THE NEXT PARAGRAPH* Kennedy was a mutant, I just might love you forever. Also, I loved the scene in the plane where Eric is yelling at Charles for abandoning them, so anything that deals with that (before or after) would be great, too.

Also Arrow fic set either set in season one or not spoilery for season two.

Lastly, Life. I've seen through "Black Friday" (ep 2.08). I didn't ship Crews/Reese in the slightest...until "Did You Feel That" when she plugged his headphones into her iPod and then the earthquake hit and it was almost like they were holding hands because they were tethered so close together. So, for Life, gen is good, pre-ship is good, and *maybe* very early ship as well. Really anything that isn't Established Relationship, because I'm not their yet. I also wouldn't mind something that explored Reese/Tidwell as long as its less creepy than the show's been playing it.

I kind of accidentally stumbled into this on Netflix and...it's not bad! I like the idea of the kids of famous fairy tale characters all go to boarding school and are destined to follow in their parents' footsteps...except then some of them start rejecting that future.

I think it's kind of hilarious that apparently these kids just IDK grew out of the side of a counterpart parent, because...Snow White's daughter is destined to marry Prince Charming's son (after being poisoned by The Evil Queen's daughter), because Snow White married Prince Charming.

Never mind that that would make the kids brother and sister. Anyone else watch this?
