I'm taking over stream again for a dual awesome/shit night! (Noodles said he has a specific name for that; I forget what it is.) Also musicals, because that's all it seems I do.

First experience the classic tale of a homicidal, disfigured, musical genius as he terrifies an entire opera house and psychologically traumatizes a Swedish soprano for life. Also pretty songs. It's Phantom of the Opera (superior 25th Anniversary version, not 2004 movie version).

A Question of Etiquette

If someone tells you that they're gay, is there a set response? I'm curious just from the point of view of wanting to have good manners. "Congratulations" seems flippant, and "Thank you for telling me" I feel implies that being gay is still a thing that must be kept quiet except from your closest and confidants and is therefore shameful. (And I'm not saying that the world has changed completely for the better that way, but I honestly believe that the Western World is in fact moving towards there.)

So is there a set formula to say that just conveys, "ok, you have just told me a thing, I acknowledge it, my world is not warped/rocked/ruined by this revelation, I have no problem with it, so what else were we talking about?"

Should we make up a set formula?

Tell me your Secrets on how you get your profile pic./icon so good/not terrible quality pictures. I'm making a sort of dummy account on DW, and it turns out that it can only be 40kb and at most 100 pixels square. Specifically, how do you people get icons with words to be not really crappy and readable under those conditions.

Worse Restaruant Experiences?

A couple says ago I ate dinner at Logan's Roadhouse. I decided to try the Fried Cheese and Bacon burger. I asked the waitress what the Fried Cheese was and she told me it was a was basically a cheese disc. So I gave it a shot.

It came and looked pretty good. However, when I bit into it, the melted cheese shot out of the back and burnt my hand. I panicked because it hurt quite a bit and quickly tried to wipe it off. My sister saw a manager walking by and flagged her down to explain what happened.

The manager was extremely condescending and blase about what happened. She went, 'Awwww,' and said it was, "Part of the cheesy goodness." She actually said that. She said she could get me some burn cream and left.

Our waitress came back around and she told me that, "It [being burnt] happens all the time. But don't worry we have a great first aid kit." And that the first time she ate a Fried Cheese and Bacon burger the cheese exploded in her face and burnt her.

The manager returned after we were almost done eating. She asked me for my information (Name, Phone Number, Age, Address) and gave me a little packet of burn cream. Worst restaurant experience ever.

Anyone here had some terrible experiences? Or hilarious?

Things you've learned because of...

Things you've learned because of or through fandom---not limited to shows, movies, books, fanfic, or other fan related media--even here!

I'll give it a go--
On a personal level, certain characters (as expanded through fanfic) have helped me through my teenage years and becoming more confident in myself. Many books, movies and tv shows have provided reassurance in my life, I constantly look toward LOTR and POTC to remind me of the adventure my life could be if I participate in my own life.

For laughs: I also have learned quite a bit about sex and the like through fandom/fanfic. The horrors my young mind were exposed to. And apparently the dredges get deeper!

Anyone else think this is going to be handled really badly?

I have a con coming up, and the fabric I needed wasn't in stock, nor was it in stock in any of the stores in an hour radius. So yay for ordering online and hoping that it will show up soon! :D

So, to cheer myself up, I ended up buying one of those peg boards you use to make designs, you know, the ones that you make the patterns, then you iron over the top?

This thing is so much fun! Why didn't I get one of these before? :D
