I'm going to London, whooo!

I'm moving to London for school, from the US. I just bought my plane ticket after months of not letting myself get excited about it (I get very anxious when good things have the possibility of coming my way, and convince myself that -something- will go wrong, visas, loans, etc, and it will not happen) and for the first time I'm finally letting myself freak out with happiness.

So... any advice about living in the UK, specifically London, from someone from small town USA? Shoulds and should nots?

And how about you all? Have you ever moved or spent a significant amount of time in a foreign country? What was adjustment like, especially after the "tourist" phase was over? Anything you wish you knew beforehand?

Do you like it when fictional friends fight?

When two close friends (especially best friends) in a book/show/etc have a fight, do you like it and find it interesting (even if it's distressing to watch), or do you hate it and wish it had never happened? (Assuming that the fight was not really badly-written or OOC or anything).

I've always really liked it when best friends fight, because for me, I always really want to have the security of knowing that the two character's friendship is strong enough to survive a fight (I feel a little bit nervous about friends who never fight because I always think "if they ever do fight, I don't know how they'll react").

But I know a lot of other fans who can't stand seeing fictional friends fight and say that they only want to see them being affectionate and at ease with each other, or that fights make their friendship less appealing.

My recent accomplishments include clearing out my mother's gmail account from over 30,000 e-mails to under 1,000. I had already unsubscribed her from mailing lists throughout the year but still needed to do mass deletions to get it all under control.

The plan was this evening to meet up with my brother and his friend (which is in turn my friend) for dinner. But brother had to back out and I'm not a big social enough of person. And I feel tired. But I decided to just bite the bullet because I need some distraction so I'm going to meet for dinner anyway.

Does anyone else think the obsession TV shows have with shoehorning every possible type of conflict into every possible relationship because TV is apparently boring without pointless conflict in every other episode is total bullshit?

Update re: texting & driving post yesterday

I ended up reporting the driver, and got a reply saying they would be looking into it immediately. I hope I didn't cost anyone their job, but thinking about it, they'll probably just be warned about it anyway, and hopefully the person will learn a lesson, though I know it's quite possible the driver'll just walk away moaning about how unfair their life is. I really am sick of people not seeing how dangerous it is. And in this particular instance, it was in a parking lot, which kind of makes it worse. Is it that hard to just not drive until you're done texting? Or acquire a bluetooth headset?
