I was pro gamergate. Duh.

But I thought it was really unfair that Zoe Quinn got so much of the attention. Her part in it was really more of a spark to the powder keg imo.

Even if she was screwing people for positive professional attention, so the hell what, its not her job NOT to do that. Its the journalists who have all the obligations of professionalism in that issue, Dont fuck people you will cover. If you do, declare it.

As far as Im concerned Zoe Quinns part in gamer gate should have ended as soon as it was announced and all the attention should have been on the journalist - Who then threw Zoe Quinn under the bus a bit by using her as a shield "Gamers are asking us questions, but really, everyone, look at this woman over here who is being attacked, 4Chan, look at this woman! What are you trolls going to do! What are you going to do, Trolls *Wink Wink* why don't we paint it as her vs the trolls, then the heats off us". And god damn it, but these ignorant fucking trolls bit and bit hard with shockingly little prompting - people should have forgotten about Zoe Quinn.

All of that is not my confession. My confession is this: Given all the bollocks going on around her right now, I kinda think she doesn't want gamergate to forget about her. I kinda think she thinks she needs gamergate, because why the hell else would she be trying so fucking hard to resurrect it, and why is she trying to force her way into the newly risen gamergate limelight?

My favorite shelter cat bit me on the mouth today. A staff member was in the room and saw it, I downplayed how much it hurt and the fact that it was bleeding a bit. It only slightly broke the skin. And I knew he'd be put in quarantine if it was recorded. And he's already been there for more than two months. He needs a home.

He's the sweetest cat ever. There were just a ton of people in the room looking at kittens, he got a bit overwhelmed, and nipped. Not a big deal as far as I'm concerned and not something that should go on his permanent record. He's still my favorite cat and I'd adopt him in a heartbeat if I could.

I think people are really two faced when complaining about toxic masculinity than mock guys for liking girly things. For example 'guy liking My Little Pony" complaints, which I take less seriously unless they're about a specific area of bad fan and not just "how dare they like this thing".

Also treating it like a novelty that MLP fandom can have bad parts or it's somehow extra bad because I've see girls being creepy fans for fucking years, including writing torture fics of female characters for being rivals to some slash OTP.

So I laugh in the faces of people who get all alarmist about MLP fandom and such NOW. Nobody really got concerned before.

Heatwave in a cold country

Somebody turn down the heat to the usual 18C again, please. I can't cope with real heat. Not to mention the humidity. Our houses are built to keep heat in, not vent it out. Why does it seem to actually get warmer in the hour after sunset? I swear I must have sweated out three gallons of water today.

How is the weather where you are?

Dog breeding

If I win the lottery I would go into the dog breeding business. I'd try to breed an otterhound with short hair around the muzzle and face. I've talked with a lot of people about why they wouldn't get an otterhound (other than not knowing they existed) because they are such a lovely dog, and the big stopping point seems to be their muzzle beard and how it is always dirty and sopping/dripping water. I figure, a smooth faced otterhound has to be a hit. Now I just need a couple of million for start up costs.

To cover running costs I'd probably have to breed labradoodles too though. Though that wouldn't be so bad. Be a chance to work with the labradoodle (and other oodle varieties) societies to get a reliable breed standard and breed pedigree. That has to be cool, surely, to be in on the ground floor of a new breed formation in this day and age.

I wonder if you could do an Otterhound/Poodle cross? I think Ottoodle sounds a bit clunky, but the alternative is Poohound.

Ear Cartilage Bump

Anyone here have a sharp small bump on the top part of your ear cartilage? This would have been something you were born with. One of my sisters and I both have one (on one ear only) but my other two siblings do not. Was wondering how common these bumps are.

Drama with a fandom friend

I've been in online fandom for years and yet I never had a fandom friend until a few months ago. We exchanged messages at least once a day. Then she suddenly stopped. She has mental health issues, and life can be shitty in other ways too, so I worried sth had happened. I asked if she was ok via tumblr, twitter. Finally, I was about to bother someone I didn't know but she's close with in Real Life. That's how I stumbled on the fact that she was fine, but angry with me. I'd seen a comment/opinion on twitter that I thought was ridiculous, I mentioned it to her. Turns out she has several twitter accounts and shares that opinion, and it was probably her comment I'd seen.

At this point I kind of got upset, and asked why she didn't just tell me she felt insulted, why she let me worry. I also don't understand what she wants me to apologize for, as we've talked about this issue before and she knows we disagree about it. Even if we hadn't, it's not like I can take it back now without obviously lying to her. Anyway, now she's upset because after 'waiting for an apology' I've turned her into the bad guy.

I'm really bothered by this, because it came out of nowhere, I won't get any kind of resolution, and I'm upset she thought that disagreement over some triviality was more important than our friendship.

Does anyone have advice? Experience? Opinions? Words of comfort?

I couldn't get through it - it was kind of terrible, and especially depressing in light of what we actually got. Even more depressing is that I could see myself being satisfied by it if it had come out 10 years ago, and I had no expectation for anything better...
