Hopefully it will be more relaxing than what I'll be doing. Tomorrow I have to go to a grill-out at my cousins. All my visiting family will be there. I only have to survive another week and I can relax again. ʘ‿ʘ

The fabric I ordered and need for a con at the end of August ended up in Oklahoma, instead of where I live, in Oregon. I know I still have time (assuming that my fabric actually gets to me ever), but my friend and I were hoping to get it before she had to leave for three weeks to take care of her mother post- surgery, as she's really into making costuming, and I'm still learning.

I mean, I can get to her house, once I have the fabric, but gas money, you know?

Preparing for Yuletide

I'm already thinking about my Yuletide noms. Today I started checking potential fandom eligiblity based on the new rules. (Less than 1000 combined total English fics at FF.net and AO3, duplicated fics still count on both sites). I've encountered some surprises, such as my 2nd Yuletide fic's fandom now being too big, but for the most part I'll have the same problem as always: too many options. C: And being it's only July, I'm sure I'll think of more and more fandoms to add.

I love Yuletide, even with all the wank, and people who try to cheat the system, and general asshattery that goes with the fest. It's still so much fun for me. I've also met a great group of IRL fandom friends through the fest! Ah, good times. :D

Naruto ship "wars"/little rant

I never thought I'd find a fandom whose shipwars were as toxic as Harry Potter's, but damn. I'm so sick of the ship tags being full of people acting like there's a literal war going on and just saying the most insulting stuff about other shippers. Nothing they say will/can make any difference to what a guy in Japan who can't even speak English does with his story. You don't have to "fight" to "win".

Games you mess up hiliariously on.

Today a friend showed me a horror game called "Lakeview Cabin" (which is pretty NSFW, mostly violence and some nudity, there may be more I can't get past the boss), and I tried to play it. But it seems that all I can do is mess up in pretty amazing ways. These include:
Stepping in a bear trap because I couldn't figure out how to get a key.
Setting said bear trap on fire.
Setting myself, the boss and a random deer, who had lost her legs, on fire. The deer seemed confused but otherwise fine despite being legless and on fire. The boss dragged me into the lake and we were both still on fire.
Setting something on fire that wasn't meant to be set on fire, so it turned into a big green box.

All in all... maybe I'd have a better chance if I didn't get set on fire so often...

I'm trying to see whether I'm nutty or not.

So, let's say you have an ex. One day, long after you've broken up, ex says to you, "there's a guy in your building who's into you, if you're interested."

My reaction to this is, "this man is over the break-up and now views his ex as a friend." The reaction of a lot of my friends is, "this man is a jerk and a loser and should be cut off entirely."

What are your thoughts? Is your reaction similar to mine, similar to my friends, or somewhere in between?

Tips on making/starting small talk?

So, I work in a retail environment, and while we don't have commissions, our supervisors have been increasingly encouraging us all to make more small talk with customers as a segue into trying to "upsell". I've had people tell me it's easy for our environment (it's a major tourist location), but I still struggle with it.

Any tips on initiating and maintaining small talk, especially for someone who finds most small talk really invasive or irritating? I'm really trying to make a good impression on my bosses and would really appreciate the help on this.
