Recent fandom disappointments?

We all have old fandoms whose canons got screwed up which we're still disappointed about, but how about fandoms that recently screwed up (lets say since the past year-and-a-half, for the sake of standard TV scheduling)? What disappointments and idiotic canon developments have happened since then?

Did they ruin the fandom for you or make you leave it, or are you still in the fandom, either because you still love it anyway or because you hope it'll get better? Are the canons still unfinished (more movies/seasons/issues coming out) or is it complete? Does that make it better or worse (dreading more shitty developments vs hoping things will get fixed)?

Astonished by how pissed off it made me.

Worst part is off all the stupid bullshit the ending where bald dickbag becomes the founder of his own Google pissed me off the most. You can't just make a Google because you knew what it is before anyone else did.

Like... really? In a movie that included slut-shaming a little girl for something she will allegedly do in the future that's my takeaway?

Upset, lonely... I feel like I'll never make friends in my fandom either.

I'm at this weird stage where I don't care if people leave me or isolate me, since I don't believe friendships will go anywhere for me -they never last for me, people just stop talking and I don't want to be creepy or a stalker. I don't blame people for walking away I just... don't see a point in myself any more. I could have all the success but if I can't connect with people that's not worth it.

But I'm human and i get sad. Like Aristotle said, no real point in living if you've figured our that you're meant to be friendless. Which I have.

Still I try working at my hobbies, but those haven't been going well for me lately. I feel like I'm not good at anything, not writing, RPing, drawing, speaking, whatnot. I'm not even good at complaining because I see people who complain get whinier than I'm allowed to be often and easily and people take what they say seriously, and love them and me... whenever I speak out I get in trouble. I try to accept that,and so I don't talk much -but them the same peers and family complain about me not reaching out to them. ...Idek.

Mostly I'm mad, sad and frustrated that I'm feeling like shit over my art, I literally feel like I can't draw anything but stick figures and the things I manage are strokes of luck. I want to improve but I feel so dumb and stupid and like I'm slow and am just not meant to get it. Trying my hardest still though.

I feel like I'm getting nowhere and I'm a curse who can't accomplish anything, and that my biggest flaw is me trying to achieve anything. Even though I've come to the point that I want for almost nothing any more. I don't think someone like me has the right to have anything.

Still, I wonder why I'm supposed to be alive them any ways if I'm useless, if I'm ignored. I don't even mind people who tell me to kill myself because I'm "useless" (And I know I may get some of those comments here --just know I agree and you don't need to be redundant) --I've tried. I just can't try as readily because of my religion, but I've long ago stopped trying to survive.

I don't feel entitled to something that comes easily to others any more... not saying out of bitterness, but because I kind of came to see all of those things as a miracle others take for granted.

I just wonder why, and don't see any way to stop this constant pain without dying.

I wouldn't mind a painless death not inflicted by me.

That sounds like my happy ending.

Hey all. I figure that thanksgiving weekend is gonna eat up time for a lot of us. We got familes and lives and shit. So barring tremendous outpourings of "no do it!" I figure Shit Stream can wait till the weekend after this one.

I'm thinking Racism night part 2! Boss Nigger (no really, that's it's fucking name!) and Fist of the North star. Not the kick ass anime. the live action movie with a white guy as the lead.

More Twilight Fic To Be Published

I'm probably really late to the party on this, but the new issue of EW just informed me that a fic that got me into reading fic, and that I'm still rather fond of, "The Office" (now renamed to "Beautiful Bastard" I KNOW) is getting the serial numbers filed off treatment. And I feel conflicted because I also read Master of the Universe before it got published and was totally disgusted, by the story and the author herself, and go around bad-mouthing the story and the act of pulling-to-publish in itself.

But tby789...well, she seemed really nice as a person. When she pulled her fic several years ago she did so with the express promise that it wasn't because she wanted to publish, but it's been a while now and I can't quite blame her for jumping on a bandwagon that could make her really fucking super-rich.

But now I don't look forward to the bashing the story is gonna get by general fandom. I mean, it's simply a guilty pleasure romance novel, and as far as I can recall, is nowhere near as problematic as FSoG. But I know it's gonna get a thorough bashing simply because pulling to publish is not looked upon kindly. And I don't look on it kindly myself! But the author seemed like such a nice person, as opposed to Icy who was a massive bitch.

TL:DR, I'm a big hypocrite.

Anyone else have things they're pissed off about but not for the reasons people think?

Like, me, it really pisses me off when people assume I'm a lesbian. NOT because being a lesbian is bad, but because people always have such bull shit reasons about why they think it's okay to speculate about my sexuality.

Some of my "favorites"
- you "look" like a lesbian (what the fuck does that even mean?)
- you're hair's too short to be straight
- you don't wear make up
- you don't have a boyfriend

And it just pisses me off so much, because I can't say anything without people getting on my case about being homophobic. No you shithead, I'm not homophobic, I'm "stop acting like my sexuality is any of your fucking business"phobic. (I mean, if people were asking because they saw me being intimate with a person who identifies as a girl, then I wouldn't be so annoyed, because at least they have a reason to think that, rather then just guessing.)

Anyway, that's my rant. Anyone else have things that you get pissed off about, but not for the reasons people assume?

Popular fanon pairings you can't stand

Inspired by secret #15 in today's post.

What are some fanon pairings that are popular within your given fandom(s), past or present, that drive you nuts? It can be rational or irrational dislike.

My top one would probably have to be Spock/Kirk (old and new versions). There's really no reason that I can find off the top of my head to justify my disdain for this one because I can totally see where people are coming from when they list off subtext for the pairing, but I can't stand it. Same with Sulu/Chekov, but to a much lesser degree.

My next would likely be Zuko/Katara, but honestly, a lot of my hate for that pairing comes from the fans. I came into the Avatar fandom kind of late (but before Korra, which I still have yet to watch), and seeing all the wars over which kid was fucking whom was tiring. The 'Zutarans' were just louder than everyone else, I guess, hence my hate.

I have more, but those top my list. So, F!S, which fanon pairs do you hate?

Okay, I talked this over with my mom. Her advice was no help.

So, I met this guy a while ago at an author signing in the city in the summer. We talked and stuff. We eventually exchange numbers in order to hang in the future. I was like, "Yay! Another Whovian to hang with 8DDDD". We texted each other about our thoughts on geeky movies and the upcoming season of DW.

So, about maybe three weeks after texted each other, he decided to show me a few places where they sold old school video games. I said sure cuz it meant I could find stuff for my GB or PS/PS2. We met and decided to eat. We had Subway. When I went to getto pay for my stuff, he said to not worry. Okay. I mentioned to him hat I was looking for a job. So, I thought he was just being nice. (I've had guy friends that occasionally cheered me up by buying me lunch.) We went around looked at the two places for used games. I marveled and fangirled at all the old and pretty games and systems. Around four, we ran out things to see. I'm a bit tired. SO I suggest to head home. 'It's too early. How about we go see a movie? If not, we can go to my place and we'll watch some DW' I decline at first. After a bit more instisting, we got see Prometheus. Then call it a day.

I was weirded out. Though, I dismissed it at first to him being nice b/c I'm facing hard times.

Second time we hang, my area now. He pays for everything even when I try to pay on my own. I try to end it early since we ran out of stuff to do. He suggesst we can go to my house to watch stuff. I declined with a half lie. Eventually, I said that need to get home b/c I'm doing an evening talk with my buddies. At this point, I don't feel comfortable. I get the feeling he likes me, but I don't return the feels.

Yesterday. I had a really tough week. I just wanted to have some fun. My BFF couldn't meet me due to family stuff. I canceled hanging out the week before with him because of sickness. I'm one to keep my promises. Anyways, we go to see Skyfall. He tries the stretching arm tactic during the movie, but he never did it since I didn't give him the opportunity. We found an arcade and played a few games. While, he was away, I got my own tokens. Anyways, he didn't mind. We playing DDR, shooting games, and other stuff. I commented that I'm terrible at these and I made fun my ineptness at shooting. We had fun. I had told him earlier that I had to leave at 5 b/c my mom's aid left at six. So, we say goodbye, I wave and turn to leave. HE HUGS ME FROM BEHIND. I stiffen up at this. Ten agonizing seconds later, he lets go. I walk normally until the turning corner before sprinting down the subway. Before going to the arcade, he tried to get to come over to his place again to watch DW and listen to the audio drama he got. I had said no. (I don't go to people house that I haven't know for a year)

I tell my mom what happened. She tells me, "Well, his friends are in other states, right? Well, he's lonely. He just sees you as a friend. The awkward hugs was probably b/c he probably didn't get much affection as a kid."

I'm like, "No, I don't think so. He likes me. I need to tell him, I'm not interested."

Frankly, my gut instinct tells me to be wary. He's a nice guy and all, but I don't want to date. Too many reason not to. (Depression, wanting to stay single, low self esteem etc) Anyways, after my mother kept insisting that, "He's not interested in you. He's being a gentleman!" has made me doubt myself.

Now, I'm just wondering. 'What did I say or do to make him think we're dating? Am I just imagining that he likes me? How do I tell that I don't like him in that way? Do I tell him anything? Do I just stop answering his texts?' I'm at a lose on what to do F!S....The whole situation makes me feel bad and nervous. Now, I'm on the verge of crying over this matter. (I feel so stupid that I want to cry over this situation)

TL;DR: I think he likes me, but I never expressed that I was interested in dating him. My moms keeps insists he's being nice and makes me question myself. Now, I have no idea what to do.

Sorry this so long and rambly. I'm just really don't know what to do.

So my partner, who has always been mildly fannish but never actually *involved* in fandom, is now looking into starting a journal about their real life and making some fandom-inclined friends on the Internet! Which is cool and awesome, since they needed an outlet for all of the shit they're going through that isn't just me. But now they want to know: LJ or DW, in terms of finding fandom friends?

They're into anime, but not the popular stuff - mostly currently-fansubbed weird/supernatural/strange series, with a side of Gundam and other old school stuff on occasion. They used to play video games a lot more (mostly PC games and Monster Hunter), and still like the concept of indie games, just don't have the time to play now. People that are going to be mature and gender-weirdness-friendly would be a plus. What do you think, F!S?

They used to play a lot of tabletop roleplay games (generally D&D, some other stuff too) and they want to cosplay, but they don't have the real-life people around them to do either thing right now. They will probably not do fanart or fanfiction, though there may be some original fic (and maybe fanfic if properly encouraged). In real life, they're studying science at the graduate level and that might come up too.
