As an adult male person I can't say I know for sure what qualifies a person for "manhood" or what it means, other than in flowery porn where it's a penis, or in contrast to "boy" regarding literal physical age.

I think our generation more than the ones before us have a much more nebulous definition of the idea.

They come so close to admitting that "masculinity" and "feminity" are arbitrary concepts that different cultures construct in very different ways, and yet they still have to frame it as if men are a distinct group that all their problems can be blamed on. Which is pretty funny for someone named Zach. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that this person posts on 4chan and thinks they're trolling feminists.

He's got kind of a point. It's not anti-men. It's anti toxic masculinity.

And seriously - masculinity is promoted and pushed on people and pushed as being the best thing ever to a ridiculous degree. I honestly find it boring, but people expect that all men want to be masculine and everyone attracted to men is attracted to masculine men. People harass men who aren't masculine enough, men harass women to prove they are masculine enough... just give it a break already. If you want to be masculine, fine. But don't shove it down everyone's throat and don't act like being masculine makes you superior to women and less masculine men.

Wedding Stuff -- the rant

So. I'm a long-time lurker here, and I occasionally anon. But right now, I'm here to talk.

Me and my fiancee are finally getting married because it's finally legal to in Oklahoma, and we just need the insurance. We're planning the ceremony to be when we have life in order. So I started looking up tips for people like us since we're both disabled (she's got bad fibro and joint pain along with IBS and other bullshit her body pulls, I have really bad mental health and hereditary early-onset arthritis and such that prevents me from even getting out of bed some days).

And you won't believe the number of articles that are all about ripping off or taking advantage of people or just outright lying to them. Like, I get that some people arbitrarily mark up for weddings, but a lot of wedding photographers? Do so for their time and editing going into it, which can be a lot more, IME, than stuff. And don't get me started on people who suggest cheap wedding dresses from China. (What I know of China, if it's super cheap like these guys are suggesting despite it being imported, it's usually because it's from severely underpaid sweatshop labor.)

It's kind of mindboggling that some of these suggestions are all about basically scamming people or taking advantage of the marginalized (which I def don't wanna do given lesbian).

I've decided to start therapy some time ago.

What's been bugging me is that after 3 sessions I still haven't got any sort of feedback from the therapist. She says that in the beginning she'd be doing more listening so it makes sense, but I have to wonder why they can't work something with what I gave them already... it feels like my problems aren't... problematic enough for them so they're trying to dig deeper so they find something that they see as more than just me whining.

Is this normal?

Board Games

I am hoping to start a game board night with my family. And I am looking to spend about $100. I am looking for more unusual board games (so no Monopoly, Life, etc).

Any suggestions? It'd be 2-5 players. Co-op or competitive. Preferably games that last around an hour.

(depression/suicide trigger warning I suppose, sorry to make this place depressing)

I have a friend that had spoken to quite a bit about her depression in the past. I was opening up to her about my depression and sometimes feeling like I wanted to die. She told me, "You're never going to do it, you're a coward, so talking about it is a waste of time."

I haven't responded yet (this was over IM). I don't even know what I would say to her. I feel just as bad now as I ever have. What do I even say?

Weird fandom thoughts

I write fanfiction for a RPS fandom. And sometimes, something I wrote will happen irl. Like, I'll write an actor saying a sentence and then they'll say it in an interview, or I'll use a plot point related to the actor's career that will later become real.

I alternate between thinking it's a coincidence, being freaked out, and feeling proud that I've analyzed this actor's personality and their career path well enough to get so many details right.
