Weird fandom crush things (a confession)

I'm kind of curious to know if anyone else does this, but I have maybe 3-4 fandom crushes that I cycle through periodically. Each one has their own special story I tell and retell in my head, usually some epic adventure/romance thing. Usually it's self insert RPF (yeah, embarrassing) but sometimes it's AU. Whenever I have a spare moment or when I'm trying to fall asleep, I tell this story to myself and daydream it like it's a movie. Sometimes I add in new bits, but they're usually the same story. When I've reached the end, I either replay it or start on the next one.

I've been doing this for, oh... 8-9 years? I thought I'd get tired of it, but I don't. Occasionally I'll discover a new crush and then add another story so it's grown from one story to two, then three, etc. I only recently added a fourth. Nobody knows I do this, not even my closest friends. I don't write it down anywhere, nor will I ever do so, it's a comforting coping mechanism for stress that I keep private.

Does anyone else do this?

Personally, I think it's good that she lost - she gave it a really bad fight, and even though I know it's mostly just an act to generate hype, I hate how she presents herself as being an arrogant jerk. But I also kind of hate the anti-Rousey Internet reaction, and how for MMA douchebags it's turned into "See, she could NEVER beat Mayweather in a fight!" and it kind of feels like they're ragging on her just because they don't like that she's been the most successful MMA fighter and she's a woman. But anyway, good for Holm.

I'm not going to disown him. Yes, that was my knee-jerk reaction yesterday, and that was some advice I was given and I almost did it. But no, I won't.

I hate what he's saiying, I never liked him much in the first place and I despise what he's become. I won't spout sentimental bullshit about family. But I won't stick my head in the sand myself either.
I cannot make him change his mind righ now. He insulted his friends' and his own sister's intelligence when they tried, he's not going to listen to me. I can't him to just shut the fuck up.

I have to acknowledge that as hurtful and frightening it is that people go on spewing that bullshit and believe it, it's happening for a reason and even if I don't know how exactly I can fight it, I'll have to try. In the meantime, as they say: keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.
I won't cut him out, I prefer to keep an eye on him. Just in case. It will hurt, it will be hard, it will make family reunions awful, but better the devil you know that the one you don't.

Writers: World-building and character designing

For those writers who are creating new worlds, especially fantasy writers, what kind of tools do you use for world-building, if any? Do you draw out maps and such, or use any program for that? Do you try to figure out the more realistic details, like climate, flora and fauna and such?

How about for designing characters? Do you draw them, write in-depth bios, design characters using digital tools, or anything? I recently tried to design a few of my characters using MakeHuman but I'm not really good enough yet to get them looking quite how I envisioned.

Lots of people have OTPs for relationships that are super-"problematic" (whatever that may mean - abusive, power differential, one character is evil or used to be evil, they tried to kill each other, other creepy factors, blah blah), but which are not canonically romantic. And a lot of the time, the justification for liking it is "it's just for fun, it's not canon!"

But how about relationships like this that ARE canonically romantic? Do you really like or even OTP any of these?

Therapy question

Okay, so I see a therapist for some personal issues, and two months ago she recommended I seek out a psychiatrist to get some antidepressants (she was worried about my suicidal thoughts). I went, got some escitalopram, treatment is working with no big side effects. Because of the nature of the pills, I had to slowly get my body used to it, I have to take for six months and I can't quit cold turkey.

Except I'm not really feeling it with my psychiatrist. I thought he ended rather abruptly the previous session. I was supposed to go re-fill my prescription last week, but completely missed the appointment (I was always a airhead and I was super worried about my dog's health).

So I believe he's a bit pissed at me. And shit's also getting expensive (train ticket + appointment). So how do I ask in the nicest way if I really have to go every month refill my prescription? I feel like it's a waste of a time slot for him & a waste of money for me.

The word "gypsy"

I want to have a discussion about this with someone, but I don't really have a venue for it, so I'm turning to you guys. :)

So, I'm an American, and I feel pretty secure in saying that, in general, in American mainstream culture, the word "gypsy" is not a racial slur and is not said with any kind of perjorative meaning or angry or demeaning intent. There are Roma in the US, but they are not a sizable ethnic/cultural minority nor one that gets much national/media attention over here, and I'd guess that most Americans have never interacted any people who identify as Roma or Romani, nor do they have an immediate mental association with "Roma" and "Gypsy" until someone explains the two.

Take, for example, the reason for me thinking about this tonight -- listen to this Fleetwood Mac song (written by the American Stevie Nicks), and try to argue that the word "gypsy" is being used in a negative sense: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EX8tFvInN3Y . It's not: it's being used sincerely to mean "not tied down, free".

I understand that in the UK and other parts of the word, "gypsy" is used as a slur, but in the US, it simply is not. (No more than any other word can be used as an insult when someone means to -- for ex, I'm a short of height, and if you said, "You're short," in an angry or contemptuous tone, I'd be hurt by your intention to insult me, but the word "short" is not itself an insult.)

So when I say my favorite Fleetwood Mac song is "Gypsy," I'd like English speakers from places other than the US (and Canada?) to understand that no insult is being communicated, either from me or from the song, and that it's fruitless to badger me or other Americans into agreeing that we shouldn't say that word in the US, when over here there is no negative feeling attached to it.

Kind of like how I can understand that the UK television series title "Spooks" is not meant as a racial slur against black people. The title had to be changed to "MI-5" when it aired in the US, because "spook" does have a racist connotation over here. But I ~somehow~ manage to not go to Spooks fans' blogs and berate them for daring to use the name of their favorite show and call them racist for doing it, so....can't it work both ways?
