Post before yesterdays there was an interesting discussion about the ability to function in the most extreme situations.

It's a central aspect of a huge number of characters in fiction, but it isn't really something most people ever have to deal with in real life outside a select few careers or being unfortunate enough to be involved in some situations.

Dating & religious beliefs

Hey, F!S
I have a date soon! My first ever date. I'm so excited! :) The guy seems nice and pretty laid-back.

But... there's a problem. See, I just checked the guy's FB page, and apparently he's an atheist, and a big fan of Dawkins. I have no problem with him being an atheist; people should be free to believe (or not believe) whatever they want.

What I'm worried about is whether he'll have a problem with me being a Christian. What if he thinks less of me for being a theist (and a Christian, to boot)? What if he thinks I'm ignorant or stupid?

Have any of you ever dated someone with a different set of beliefs or worldview to your own? How did that work out for you?

*SPOILERS FOR THE LATEST EPISODE OF CRIMINAL MINDS*

So, for people that don't watch the show, the latest episode of Criminal Minds involved a "cure the gays" camp. Kids were raped and tortured there to "fix" them, and the abusers were rightly portrayed as awful people (if anything the show wasn't hard enough on them), and in the end the camp was raided and shut down.

Now, there are some people on a certain site that are complaining about how the writers were supposedly pushing a "dishonest political message" and whining that the episode was unfair and unbalanced because the people who raped and tortured children were shown as being bad people, and that the opinions of people who "disagree with homosexuality" weren't being respected. If the episode had been about race rather than sexual orientation, anyone trying to pull this bullshit would rightly be called racist, but as it is, no one is saying anything, and I'm dumbfounded.

I'm trying really hard to stay out of it considering how easy it is to get banned from this particular site, but. I might end up going off on someone, though, because that's just not fucking acceptable. This is not an issue where there are two perfectly valid but different points of view, one side is just flat out fucking WRONG.

I just...it's 20 fucking 13, people. I don't even know what else to fucking say.
