Several recent reunions with old acquaintances whose first words are generally "Have you lost weight?" got me wondering if people just remember me as fatter than I am.

It was actually a sort of spontaneous thing. I was called up by this dude last week, chatted on the phone for about half an hour, then a few days later he asked if I was willing to be interviewed and I sort of said "yes" on a whim. So today I spent an hour in the studio (which will be cut down to 3 minutes real time) and I had a LOT of fun, but I really hope I won't sound like an idiot. Well, at least I managed not to swear!

(And it's weird, because I'm more used to interviewing people than vice versa)

Since the book club is MIA, what is everyone reading/in the middle of reading/looking forward to reading?

I personally have been meaning to start a Pynchon short story collection, and have a dozen things open on my ereader, but haven't managed to read at anything near the levels I used to, when I was younger.

OK. So the opener was a bit of a handwavey thing of handwaving, but at least there were still notable consequences from the cliffhanger...and some of those consequences for Idrisa are creeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy let me tell you. Not sure what to think about Amanda's sudden change in character (I'm iffy--it seems a bit of a stretch to me), nor in Datak's...but the scene between him and Yewll in the refugee/concentration camp was black humour at its finest (or, you know, not-so-finest). Stahma is up to her signature tricks, unchecked by the fact that there's no Lawkeeper, and the E-Rep law enforcement (who have recruited Nolan's former deputy) are pretty much corrupt and/or ruthless. Seems like old St. Louis (AKA Defiance) might have some life left in it yet. I just hope all these loose ends are going somewhere, and it's not just a case of making it up as they go along.

TL;DR: Why are you not watching Defiance, FS?

It was my mother's homepage in the early 2000s. It was sort of an aggregator of aggregators--here's the link to a world news aggregator, here's the link to a celebrity news aggregator, here's the link to a sports news aggregator . . . and way down towards the bottom, with an "NSFW" marking, here's the link to a site with photos of women in their underwear. It was pretty tame (I think there was only one pic in which you could vaguely see a nipple), but it was revelatory to my younger self, right until my mother caught me looking at it.

My mother doesn't remember this site at all. What happened to it? Does it even still exist, and if so, is it at all recognizable?
