Mental tricks for dealing with anxiety

What are yours?

I've discovered recently, a way of dealing when my anxious feelings creep up on me, regaining control of my brain. When I get the anxious feelings I just mentally command them to get out until they subside. Also I've quit letting my brain always think of the worst that could happen for everything and replace it with positive stuff.

Anybody else have any coping mechanisms for this?

Ugh, it's too early in the morning for this shit.

Someone on a writing reference forum asked for information about WoW for a minor scene, and OF COURSE some douchebag has to butt in with "well i don't know if you're really capable of writing that if you don't KNOW games like i do."

Like, dude, it's a reference forum. For people who don't know stuff to ask people who DO know stuff. Of course they're not a gamer, THAT'S WHY THEY'RE ASKING. Props to OP for actually trying for accuracy instead of just making shit up.

It's just the epitome of stereotypical douchebag gamer behaviour. If he was trying to sound like a combination of Regina George and Comic Book Guy, he succeeded! It's such a useless comment; it does nothing to help anyone except stroke his own ego.

...in other words, what should you be doing instead of dicking around on F!S?

Today, for example, I'd like to do laundry and dishes (blah, those don't even take long but I always procrastinate) and make a significant chunk of progress in sorting through the old stacks of paper that were in my closet. (Once I'm done with that I can rearrange the storage in my closet, a necessary step to completely clean all the junk off my floor, so it's a work in progress! A very annoying one.)

Then I need to go to bed sometime *before* midnight because I have to clock in early tomorrow.

Have you ever found yourself relating with or imagining how something from fiction would be like, even though you'll probably never experience it in real life?

When I read Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and got to the bit about how the Imperius spell felt, I remember thinking "holy shit, that's almost exactly like what I feel when I get compulsions from OCD." It made the scene of Harry learning to overcome it mean that much more to me. because if Harry can overthrow an Imperius curse, I could say no to my compulsions.

Real ID

Apparently Oklahoma is among a handful of states that have not met federal Real ID guidelines. Which means in 2016 I may not be able to use my ID as proof to board my airplane for my trip in March. I guess the only solution is to drop $100+ on a passport I may never use. =(

Anyone else in one of the shitty states with this problem?

bad roommates and expenses (just venting)

My roommate and I use a notepad on the fridge to calculate bills. Water is in my name, electric is in hers. We also paid for insurance and cable installation. She's a pretty tense person in general and I think this translates to her being really passive aggressive, so I wasn't super surprised when I checked this evening to see she had written "toilet paper: $23.99" on the notepad.

I'm never home (literally almost never; I spend the nights with my boyfriend 5-6 days out of the week and I work over 40 hours) and we've discussed this. For instance, she thought it would be unfair to expect me to do some of the household chores as much as she does (ie. unloading the dishwasher) since she is using most of the assets in the home far more than me. That being said, I still clean the bathroom and do the dishes, etc when I am home because I like keeping my place tidy even if I'm never there.

But anyway I am just baffled as to why her mentality is apparently not applying to things like toilet paper and dish soap. I don't feel like I should be splitting these costs when 1. it was not agreed to when we set house rules, 2. she chose to buy toilet paper in bulk (like seriously? $24?) and 3. I am not using hardly any of the TP. I would rather buy my own than have her make these decision for me and then attempt to collect on money she isn't actuall owed.

It's not a huge deal, it's just $15 or so she's claiming I owe her, but I'm living paycheck to paycheck and it's just a general attitude of hers that this is acceptable. I think she's kind of a hypocrite about things too; we have two kitchen trash cans and she uses both but only empties one because the other is "mine" and she filled my bathroom trash bin with dirty pads without replacing the actual bag, so they're just sitting in the can. I can guarantee she won't clean it out.

Idk I just don't see how she can think it's fine to bill me for bulk toilet paper that I don't use lol and I'm worried if I only pay a few dollars for it (which is my plan) that she'll withhold money for our water bill from me. I know I could technically take her to small claims court over this but it wouldn't be worth the money.
