As I get older, I find I'm posting a lot less on sites like tumblr, pinterest, reddit, etcetera. And f!s. I still lurk, but I just don't post any content myself. I'm even considering deleting some of my accounts.

I just feel like I'm so busy, I don't have the time, and a lot of that stuff doesn't seem to matter as much as it used to. (Well, I AM about to graduate soon, so I've got a lot on my plate. Maybe I'll post more once I actually get a job, who knows!)

Finally saw MI: Rogue Nation and have a question (SPOILERS)

The one-on-one fight scene between Ilsa and one of the henchmen, there were some interestingly avoided cliches for a summer blockbuster, especially with her being a woman who's not the lead: she fights against a man, rather than another woman; he doesn't get cocky or underestimate her; they don't have any one-liners or sexual/sexist dialogue (or actually any dialogue besides him challenging her); and she definitively, actively kills him (instead of him falling to his death or anything else striking a killing blow).

So, are there any other movies, especially big blockbuster ones, that avoid similar cliches? I don't think any of the previous MI's do, but my action film knowledge is pretty limited. Ones where the woman is a lead is also of interest, but I realized how much I've come to expect all the above when the woman is a co-lead in a largely male-dominated team.

do you ever get the overwhelming to feeling to pet a dog after looking at pictures online? i've been getting this really badly lately and it's pretty pathetic. i just want to pet a dog, a big fluffy one, really bad. maybe snuggle a bit. i am overwhelmed by how cute and great dogs are everytime i look at them. i am not in a situation where i can keep a dog and this is slowly destroying me on the inside.

Asking author question about a fic - what is the ettiquette?

I recently discovered a WIP on AO3 and am wondering if asking the author if they intend on finishing it is something that's frowned upon.

It's fantastic, and I'm perfectly content with the way the last chapter ended, if it turns out to be the end of the fic. But it says X/? which makes me think it's supposed to continue, though it hasn't been updated in a long time.

I don't know if it's even possible (other than asking in a comment, maybe?) but I thought of somehow messaging them to ask if they plan on continuing it. I know writers hate to be bugged about updating WIPs and I don't want to bother them but would a one time question along the lines of "Hey, I really loved this fic and noticed it wasn't marked as complete, I was just curious if you planned on adding more to it?" be something that's discouraged?

I know I'm posting at a weird time here so I don't know if anyone will even see this, but I'm curious...
